Biography: Elena was born in 1992 to John Gilbert and to a 16 year old girl named Isobel Flemming, who fled after giving birth. Grayson and Miranda Gilbert, John's brother and sister-in-law, adopted the baby. It was easy to arrange since Grayson delivered Elena and Isobel disappeared. The Gilberts were trying so hard to have a baby but it wasn't happening, so everything fell in perfectly. Elena later learns that she might be a distant relative to Katherine Pierce, the vampire that caused the feud between Stefan and Damon. On May 23, 2009, when driving with her parents, the Gilberts' car crashed into a river. Elena somehow miraculously ended up in the hospital. It was later revealed, that Stefan arrived on the scene and saved her after Elena's father begged him to take care of her first before helping him and Elena's adoptive mother. It is later revealed that John, her supposed uncle, is her biological father.

After the death of her parents she broke up with her boyfriend, Matt Donovan, though she showed a strong attraction to Stefan Salvatore. Her best friend is Bonnie Bennett, and she's frenemies with Caroline Forbes.

Biography: Damon is self-contained and reserved on the surface most of the time, only letting his emotions through when he's angry - usually at his younger brother, Stefan. He generally acts flippant and arrogant, and constantly plays word games, especially when it comes to dancing around an issue, and even more especially when that issue involves his true feelings on a serious subject. He believes that the vampire nature is inherently dark, and that Stefan's attempts to not feed on humans are therefore unnatural. He has no problem with killing humans, although he generally won't go out of his way to do so. He has a significantly violent history due to his early vampire life. Although we are given no glimpses into this mercenary life, it is strongly implied that he did immoral things with no regrets, and would have little to no problem doing them again. Past relationships include: Katherine Von Swartzchild, Elena Gilbert whom he has feelings for and, though he occasionally shows feelings towards Bonnie.

Biography: Katherine's human life is vague other than the fact that she was born somewhere in Bulgaria in around 1475 and was born into a wealthy family who then disowned. Katherine in 1492
her, due to her having a illegitimate daughter in 1490. Katherine became pregnant by an unknown man, carried the child to term and gave birth to a healthy girl before she was transfigured into a vampire. This was later confirmed and it was shown that her daughter was taken seconds after she was born, leaving Katherine devastated. Her given name is Katerina Petrova and was turned into a vampire by herself (suicide) in 1492 in England, when Rose fed her blood in order to heal her wounds, after she was exiled out of Bulgaria by her family. She had her name anglicized possibly after coming to the United States. She was the first Petrova Doppelgänger and was supposed to be sacrificed to break The Sun and Moon Curse in 1492, but escaped and became a vampire after hanging herself. Originally, she tried to commit suicide by stabbing herself with a knife, but Rose force fed her some of her blood to heal her, but when Rose turned her back, Katerina hung herself with a length of rope. Later, when she returned to Bulgaria, she discovered that her entire family had been slaughtered by Klaus as revenge for her having escaped him. Katherine met Stefan and Damon Salvatore in 1864, near the end of the American Civil War, when she was staying at their home in Mystic Falls. She claimed to be an orphan who had lost her parents in a fire, and took her handmaiden Emily Bennett with her. Damon and Stefan fought over her during this time, which sparked their life-long rivalry. ormer lover of Damon and Stefan Salvatore. She is first shown in recurring flashbacks that she shared a physically romantic relationship with the Salvatore Brothers (eventually turning them), but was captured by the townspeople of Mystic Falls to be destroyed. However, behind her sweet nature, Katherine reveals her deceptive side and escapes her would-be death with the help of George Lockwood.

He Is Elena Gilbert's younger brother, Jeremy was accidentally shot to death by Sheriff Forbes, but Bonnie is able to bring him back. However, bringing Jeremy back from the death was said to have consequences and since then Jeremy has been able to see and communicate with the ghosts of his dead ex-girlfriends Anna and Vicki, whenever he thinks about them.

Biography:
He is the complete and total opposite of his amoral, malevolent elder brother, Damon. He is a deep, intense romantic at heart, especially where Katherine (and later, Elena) are concerned.

Stefan has more humanity than his brother, Damon at times. He has been known to be civilized and caring, which is a very odd thing for a vampire. Vampires are usually scary and evil. Stefan is good, because he does not normally drink human blood. He, usually, only drinks the blood from animals a topic Damon finds hilerious.

Biography: Caroline Forbes was born in Mystic Falls. She is the daughter of the town's sheriff, Elizabeth Forbes and Bill Forbes. But when she was just a young girl, her father left them. She spent weeks, even months thinking that he would show up. But he never came, and soon she realized, he has his own life know.
When she was a human, she was a jealous, shallow girl. She wanted to be on the top, but no the whole world was around her best friend, Elena Gilbert. She always gets the best guys, and none of them want Caroline. She envied her soo much. But on the other hand, there was her other best friend Bonnie Bennett, who is a witch. Soon she learnt that the world isn't what she thought would be. It's full of mystical creatures like vampires, witches, and even werewolves. Who knows there might be more..
She fell in love with one of Elena's ex-boyfriends. Matt Donovan. They were soo happy together, but then their happy life ended. Katherine Pierce, the first doppelganger turned Caroline into a vampire. Since then life changed so much for her. She became a better person (vampire). She learnt to control the thirst, with the help of her friend, Stefan. But it has it's disadvantages and advantages too. But she has to admit, that it turned her life upside down. But she'll just have to deal with it.
